DEP declares Code Orange Air Quality Action Day
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection declared a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for ozone for Monday, June 19, in areas including Butler County.
According to the DEP, sunny skies, temperatures in the upper 80s and lingering smoke from wildfires in Canada will likely contribute to eight-hour average concentrations of ozone in the Code Orange range Monday.
Code Orange Air Quality Action Days indicate that young children, elderly individuals, and people with respiratory problems like asthma, emphysema and bronchitis are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities.
Residents and businesses within the Air Quality Action Day areas are encouraged to voluntarily help reduce ozone air pollution by driving less, reducing vehicle trips, limiting engine idling, refueling cars and trucks after dusk, setting air conditioning to a higher temperature, and turning off lights that are not in use.
