A Butler man has been charged with pointing a gun at a woman and then himself after she told police she confronted him after finding suspected drugs in her home.

State police charged Devon Bruce Atherton, 27, with simple assault and harassment following the alleged incident in Saxonburg around 3 a.m. Tuesday, June 20.

Police said the woman reported that she found a small container of suspected methamphetamine in her bathroom and confronted Atherton about it. She told police that during the ensuing argument, Atherton grabbed a revolver from a dresser drawer and pointed it at her. She said he then pointed the gun at himself when she attempted to leave.

Atherton was released on unsecured bond at his arraignment. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 12 before District Judge Sue Haggerty.
