Rain interferes with Firecracker 100 slate
BUFFALO TWP — Rain washed out the first two feature races of Firecracker 100 weekend Thursday night at Lernerville Speedway.
Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., had the fastest time in qualifying before the rains came, completing a lap in 15.155 seconds during time trials. Davenoport went on to win one of the six heat races as well.
Other heat race winners Thursday were Tim McCreadie, Hudson O’Neal, Mason Ziegler, Spencer Hughes and Brandon Overton.
Ricky Thornton, the Lucas Oil Late Model Series points leader and with eight feature wins already in his pocket this season, was nosed out in his heat race.
Rain fell over the speedway prior to the two features. The first two nights of the Firecracker 100 have a different format this season, with two features slated each night.
Tentative plans are to now run the Thursday feature races at 11:30 a.m. Friday, thus setting up the regularly scheduled series of events on Friday night.
A record purse of more than $300,000 will be awarded throughout the racing weekend.
