Jeanne Smith
Our precious Mom, Jeanne Renick Smith, of Butler, is back in the arms of our Dad and her Heavenly Father as she passed away from this earth on May 24, 2023.
She was the daughter of the late J. Bertram and Irene (Stoughton) Renick, of Mars.
Jeanne attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College before graduating from the University of Pittsburgh. It was while at Slippery Rock that she met the love of her life, Van Andrew Smith.
Together, they transformed Jeanne’s great-grandfather’s dairy farm into Stoughton Acres Golf Course, which they owned and operated from 1964 until Van’s death, on May 4, 2019. Jeanne continued to run the business until the end of her life.
They are survived by their children, Sally (Rick) Hangliter, of Seven Fields, Debbie (Jeff) Loughry, of Grove City, and Doug (Leslie) Smith of Bishopville, Md.; and seven grandchildren, Evan (Megan), Scott (Kathryn) and Todd Hangliter, and Troy, Katie, Brett and Sarah Loughry. Jeanne is also survived by a sister, Marylin Hankins, of Yardley, Pa.
Jeanne chose to live her life with J.O.Y. — Jesus First, Others Second and Yourself Last. She was passionate about holistic health care, politics and her faith in Jesus Christ. Her greatest happiness came from helping others.
