Lois “Jean” Oesterling, 86, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2023, under the care of Newhaven Court at Clearview.

Born Jan. 7, 1937, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Clara (Shiever) Sloan.

The youngest of 11 children, Jean was a graduate of Butler High School and went on to work for the Elder Insurance Agency in Butler for over 30 years before her retirement. She was a member of Meridian Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and helped with community dinners. Jean enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending their winters in Florida. She enjoyed reading and was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan.

Jean is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ernie Oesterling, whom she married at Mt. Nebo Church on Nov. 28, 1955; her son, John (Linda) Oesterling, of Butler; her daughter, Connie Oesterling, of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Ruth Spack, of Butler, and Mable Giles, of Meadville; two granddaughters, Ashley Ramer and Kellie (Justin) Hirsch; and two great-grandchildren, Vivian and Ryan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

OESTERLING — A memorial service to honor the life of Lois “Jean” Oesterling, who died Friday, June 30, 2023, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Butler, with Pastor Steve Franklin officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in Jean’s honor to Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave, Butler, PA 16001.

Arrangements have been entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
