Seneca Valley to host first Ryan Gloyer Memorial Run

The Seneca Valley School District will host the first Ryan Gloyer Memorial 5K Run/Walk to honor the fallen graduate. The run will take place at 9 a.m. Nov. 5 on the Seneca Valley campus in Jackson Township.

Awards will be given for top overall finisher for male and female, as well as top finisher in multiple age groups. Registration and pricing details have yet to be announced. However, all participants will receive a commemorative race shirt.

Ryan Gloyer, the namesake for Ryan Gloyer Middle School, was killed in action in November 2016 in Kunduz, Afghanistan.

Gloyer graduated from Seneca Valley High School in 2000 before heading off to Thiel College in Greenville. He would go on to graduate as a double major in psychology and education in 2004. Shortly thereafter, Gloyer enlisted in the Army and became a member of the Green Berets.

The school was renamed in honor of Gloyer before the 2018-19 school year.
