JEFFERSON TWP — One person was taken to a hospital following a crash between a car and a motorcycle near the American Legion on Route 356 Friday evening .

According to state police, the motorcyclist’s injuries were “pretty extensive.”

Scanner reports indicated one man could be seen lying on the road after the crash, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. He was conscious, but bleeding from the head and had a broken hand, reports said.

A LifeFlight helicopter initially was put on standby, but later called off. The motorcycle rider was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

State police said a Ford Focus collided with the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, near 754 N. Pike Road.

The motorcycle was towed from the crash.

The driver of the Ford Focus was able to drive from the scene, and the Focus suffered only minor damage, police said.

For a short time, the incident caused traffic backups along North Pike Road.

The Saxonburg Fire Department and state police were among those responding to the scene.

This is a developing story.
