Rotary Park will be closed for about three weeks starting Monday, July 17, while it undergoes renovations including repaving.

Butler City Council will vote to shuffle Community Development Block Grant funding on its budget for park improvements at its next meeting. The resolution would reduce the Father Marinaro Park Lot reconstruction budget by $2,045 and the Rotary Park improvement budget by $2,935; and reallocate $4,980 to the Christie Avenue playground sidewalk project.

The work on the sidewalk is almost complete already, and the parking lot improvement at Father Marinaro is complete, said Butler City Councilman Dan Herr said at a meeting Thursday, July 13. Father Marinaro is slated to get more improvements using Community Development Block Grant-CARES Act funding.

Herr also said the council had to apply for the block grant funds with an “educated guess,” in order to get funding on time.

“We had to put this together in such a short period of time,” Herr said.

Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy said this kind of money reallocation is “not unique” when it comes to improvement projects.

Council will also vote at its next meeting to donate $500 to the City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds and Facilities Authority to offset expenses used to put on the Fourth of July fireworks show. The money also comes from a budget line item for Community Celebrations.

“We did this last year, both as ‘Thank you,’ and then of course they don’t get any revenue from that fireworks display,” Dandoy said. “They went off very well, it was a nice display.”
