Butler school board approves buyback vendor for electronics
BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area School District school board approved Greensburg-based AGiRepair as a vendor to purchase its used iPads and Chromebooks during its meeting, Monday, July 17.
“It’s not due to a better price; it’s due to the fact that they’re in state, and there’s no shipping costs,” said Heather Bonzo, director of finance and operations. “The price is a scale based on the condition of the iPads and Chromebooks.”
The buyback price is determined by the vendor upon review of the electronic. According to the vendor’s buyback quote, fourth-generation iPads and older would be recycled.
“We wanted to go with someone local, someone we had a relationship with,” said superintendent Brian White.
The board also discussed a tax assessment appeal concerning SpringHill Suites by Marriott in downtown Butler. According to a memorandum addressed to the district, the property’s fair market value of $6,626,419, stipulated by a settlement reached between Hari Hari LLC, Butler County, Butler City and the School District is higher than the appraised value of $5,200,000 because the property is covered under a Tax Increment Financing Plan.
Under the plan, Hari Hari LLC made “reduced tax payments for a number of years.” The memorandum states that the revised assessment of $6,626,419 is agreed upon by all parties and was calculated under the TIF Agreement.
“My recommendation is to approve it,” said Thomas Breth, district solicitor. The board postponed a vote on the appeal.
The board also approved a tuition settlement between the district and the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, whereby the district paid an additional $10,000 to resolve a 2016 dispute over charter school payments.
