Campground negotiations underway in Brady Township

BRADY TWP — Supervisors agreed to review several proposed changes to a campground ordinance on Tuesday, July 18, following discussion with campground owners last month.

The ordinance requires campgrounds to keep a register of campers that could be “open at all times to the inspection by the township engineer or code enforcement officer or law enforcement.“

Jerry Kroczek, owner of Lake Arthur Campground, said he would like the “violations and penalties” and “records-keeping“ sections of the ordinance amended.

Other elements of the ordinance would remain unchanged, solicitor Tom Smith said at the previous meeting, including the need for campground inspections and the stipulation that an escrow account be used to pay for inspections by Richardson Inspection Service.

By request of chairman Robert McConnell in June, Kroczek and Bob Villella, president of Moraine Camplands Association, wrote a list of proposed changes to the ordinance. Kroczek and Villella will meet with Smith and township supervisors at a later date, after which Smith will make a recommendation based on the proposed changes to the ordinance.

Other Items

Supervisors approved amending a sewage ordinance to reflect that holding tanks be used as a last resort for commercial establishments.

Supervisors also proposed that a resolution for driveway permits be made in writing to clarify that while the township is responsible for cleaning out ditches, homeowners are responsible for cleaning out their own culverts. The ordinance, as worded, caused some issues around deciding who is responsible for culverts, said secretary Michelle Thompson.
