Man dies after being pinned under tractor Tuesday
A 66-year-old man died Tuesday, July 18, after being pinned under a tractor on Hartmann Road in Jackson Township, according to police.
The man was identified as Bruce Simms, a resident of the Hartmann Road address, according to Jackson Township police chief Terry Seilhamer.
Seilhamer said crews were dispatched around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday for report of a man trapped under a tractor, unconscious and not breathing.
Simms had last been seen at 7:15 p.m. that evening, using the tractor with a front loader to move a small garden tractor to a junkyard in the rear of the property, according to Seilhamer.
“It was clearly an accident,” he said.
Scott Garing, chief of Harmony Fire District, said the tractor had tipped over on a hill in a wooded area. A winch was used to lift the tractor and extricate Simms.
Seilhamer said John C. Hanovich, chief deputy coroner, pronounced Simms dead at 11:06 p.m. Seilhamer said there will be no autopsy.
Harmony EMS also responded to the scene.
