Charges filed after vehicle taken from Winfield Township car dealership

A car was driven off the lot of a Winfield Township car dealership without being paid for Monday, July 17, and was found a short distance away a day later.

State police charged Michael “Myka” Petrie, 39, of Sarver, with two counts of felony theft, misdemeanor resisting arrest and summary criminal mischief after the vehicle was found on Tuesday, July 18.

Documents showed police were called to Lenzi Auto Sales in Winfield Township for a report of a stolen 2016 silver Ford Fusion.

Employees told officers that the suspect, later identified as Petrie, arrived at the dealership in a brown Subaru Forester, entered the salesroom, and requested to see the Fusion.

Surveillance footage showed Petrie obtaining the keys from a salesperson around 5 p.m. July 17. Police said Petrie then took a backpack from the Subaru before it was driven away.

Petrie entered the Fusion at 5:18 p.m., police said, and drove it off the lot without paying for it or providing identification.

Petrie was identified as wearing a black hat and a lanyard at the dealership, documents showed.

Through investigation, police said the Subaru that Petrie arrived in belonged to someone residing in Buffalo Township, approximately 1.3 miles from the dealership.

On Tuesday, police said they visited the address, and saw Petrie driving away in the Fusion. Petrie later returned and parked the Fusion at the residence next to the Subaru, documents showed.

Police said Petrie was wearing the same hat and lanyard as seen in the dealership’s surveillance footage.

When questioned, police said Petrie refused to exit the residence and would not comply with orders. After verbal and physical resistance, Petrie was taken into custody, officers said.

According to charging documents, Petrie initially denied taking the vehicle, then later told Buffalo Township police officers that the vehicle had not been returned.

Petrie’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Sue Haggerty is scheduled July 26.
