Muddy Creek approves excavator tracks

MUDDY CREEK TWP — Supervisors approved new tracks for a mini-excavator on Wednesday, July 19, at a cost of $2,200. The tracks will be paid for with unspent COVID-19 funds. The township has around $80,000 left in the account, which must be spent by December, 2024.

Muddy Creek residents also can expect some roadwork to begin and end on Thursday, July 20. A single seal treatment will be applied to Porter, Williams and West Park roads and Old Perry Highway by Youngblood Paving. The township accepted the bid from the paving company on March 15 for an estimated total of $57,778.

“A lot of times they’ll come in lower than that; it just depends on how much material they have to use, how long it takes them to (work on the roads),” secretary Abbie Flinner said after the meeting.

Supervisors discussed EMS profit and loss reports from April, May and June. While Portersville Volunteer EMS is not experiencing a deficit, the Ambulance Services company has only made about $2,000 since the beginning of the 2023, Flinner said.

Money for Portersville EMS is budgeted for in the general fund, at an amount equal to what the township receives through its fire tax.

“After COVID, just like all the EMS all over the place, they were really struggling,” she said after the meeting.

“We decided that we would match whatever we got in fire tax ...to the fire department, we’d match that and give EMS that same amount instead of just the 25% of the (local services tax),” she said after the meeting.

EMS revenue fluctuates month-to-month, chairman Dale Kerr said after the meeting.

“They’re not in a great place right now, but it’s better than them having a deficit every month, which is when they came to us,” she said after the meeting. “That’s where they were last year.“

Some of the biggest concerns for EMS are retention and making payroll, Flinner said after the meeting.
