Monica pauses performance after seeing a man hit a woman

Monica

DETROIT — R&B singer Monica paused her performance Saturday in Detroit, saying she saw a man hit a woman in the crowd.

Videos on TikTok and Instagram show Monica on stage at Hart Plaza yelling, "Don’t you hit her like that!"

Monica yelled for people in the crowd to remove the man from the event before she climbed off the stage and jumped into the crowd.

Concertgoers recorded the incident on their phones and cheered as Monica went into the crowd.

According to reporting from Detroit Metro Times, the concert continued afterward and Monica apologized on stage for the incident.

Andrus Macdonald, the Riverfront Musical Festivals' spokesperson, thanked Monica for intervening in an emailed statement.

"We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Monica for her courage and decisive intervention during an unfortunate incident at our Festival. Her actions demonstrated a commitment to the safety and respect of her fans, reinforcing our belief that she is not just an extraordinary talent, but an extraordinary individual as well.

"We are truly saddened that an event meant to bring joy and unity to our community was marred by an act of violence. We strongly condemn any form of violence, particularly against women, and we are actively working with local law enforcement to ensure that the individual involved is held accountable.

"To our festival-goers, the well-being and safety of our audience, artists, and staff are always our top priority. We would also like to commend our attendees for their patience and understanding throughout this event. Your cheers of support for Monica truly embodies the spirit of our community and the music we celebrate," Macdonald said.

Pat Sajak, left, and Vanna White

Vanna White apparently will keep her job on “Wheel of Fortune” when Ryan Seacrest begins hosting next year — but with a caveat.

The longtime letter-turner has reportedly agreed to be paid $100,000 an episode for “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.”

While White is said to have requested half of the reported $400,000-per-episode salary that retiring host Pat Sajak made, producers at Sony allegedly wouldn’t pay her that amount for the regular, non-celebrity syndicated show.

According to TMZ, White settled for a lower amount that is still a “meaningful bump” to her previous contract.

The 66-year-old has reportedly been earning $3 million per year and hasn’t received a raise in 18 years, while Sajak’s most recent contract paid him $15 million.

“After 41 years as a model employee and more the face of that show than him, asking for 50% of what he makes seems like a no-brainer,” a source told the outlet.

Although negotiations for her to continue appearing on the main show have purportedly been paused by the writers’ strike, the parties have seemingly been far apart.

“It’s gonna get ugly if they [Sony] don’t get more serious,” one source said.

Sajak, 76, and White have co-hosted “Wheel” since 1981. In 2021, they both signed new deals to remain as the stars of “America’s Game” until 2024.

In June, Sajak revealed that the 2023-24 season will be his last.

Weeks later, Seacrest was announced as Sajak’s replacement.

“I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” he shared on social media. “I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.”

Seacrest’s salary has not been revealed.

Graham Nash

NEW YORK — It’s classic rock nirvana for a worthy cause: Graham Nash playing his favorite songs from the Beatles and his old friend John Lennon.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will perform this Dec. 2 at Town Hall at the 43rd Annual John Lennon Tribute, with Nash joined by an all-star lineup including Roseanne Cash , Judy Collins, Marc Cohen and Rita Coolidge.

Nash will also be honored with the “John Lennon Real Love Award” at the event where the proceeds will fund free workshops for creative expression and a songwriting program that includes 200 free workshops for children and adults impacted by cancer.

“This is a very special award,” said Nash in a statement. “I thank Yoko and the Theater Within for thinking of me. Over many years, I watched John and Yoko ‘fight the good fight’ for many whose voices were not being heard, a fight Yoko continues to this day.

“I’m proud to be associated with the many fine artists who were previously honored with the John Lennon Real Love Award.”

Nash is a two-time Hall of Fame inductee, honored for his work with the Hollies and with bandmates David Crosby and Stephen Stills. His decades-long career included an appearance at Woodstock in 1969 and a performance 20 years later at the Berlin Wall.

The singer-songwriter recently released a new album titled “Now.”

Previous recipients of the Lennon award include Patti Smith, Natalie Merchant and Donovan.

“With its joyful annual John Lennon tribute and John Lennon Real Love Project, Theater Within is furthering the vision that John and I shared for a better world,” said Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, now 90 years old.

Lennon was killed outside their Upper West Side home in the Dakota on Dec. 8, 1980, as the couple worked on a new album titled “Double Fantasy.”

The annual event remains the only Lennon-related event officially sanctioned by Ono. Organizers said Nash planned to play some of his favorites from Lennon’s solo catalog along with music from the Fab Four during his appearance.
