Adagio Health holds farmers market at Butler WIC
CENTER TWP — Through October, Adagio Health’s Women, Infants, and Children program is holding a farmers market at its offices across Western Pennsylvania, including the one at 323 Sunset Drive.
The farmers markets feature locally grown produce from farms across Western Pennsylvania, including Butler County’s own Freedom Farms, Dillner Family Farms and Appleseed Farms. Customers can expect to find items such as sweet corn, pears, green beans and numerous fruits and vegetables.
At the Butler office, the farmers market is located just inside the entrance to the WIC office and is open during regular business hours Monday through Wednesday.
More than three weeks in, the Butler market has proven popular. Only three hours after opening Tuesday morning, the market sold out of sweet corn.
While anyone can drop by and make a purchase with cash, the markets also accept checks from WIC’s Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, which are distributed to members of the WIC nutrition program, as well as eligible seniors.
WIC members can receive three checks worth $10 each at their local WIC office. Eligible seniors can receive five checks worth $10 each at participating senior centers.
“Those (checks) are being distributed at local WIC offices as well as local senior centers,” said Britney Zwergel, Adagio Health’s vice president of nutrition and health. “And then our market accepts those checks to be redeemed right on-site in the WIC office.”
Additionally, any veteran or their family members can receive three $10 vouchers from the WIC office which can be used at the market.
Other farmers markets can be found at WIC offices in Kittanning, New Castle, Indiana and Monaca.
