Police: Missing woman who triggered search to be arrested
State police said Tuesday that an arrest warrant will be issued for an Ohio woman who allegedly stole a vehicle in Winfield Township after she was reported missing and endangered.
Sarah Hopkins, 20, was reported missing at 1 a.m. Monday from Canal Fulton, Ohio, according to Tim Ferguson of the Cambridge (Ohio) Police Department.
The local search for Hopkins began about three hours later, after her vehicle was found near the intersection of Ridgeview and Moorehead roads in Winfield Township, approximately two-and-a-half hours away from Canal Fulton.
Local fire units were dispatched to the search area around 4 a.m. and cleared the scene around 8:35 a.m., according to Butler County’s 911 dispatch center.
Hopkins and the stolen vehicle were located later Monday by the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio, according to Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer for Troop D.
On Monday evening, Hopkins arrived at the Byesville, Ohio, police station.
Daulton Dolan, Byesville’s chief of police, said she was covered in cuts when she arrived.
“She claimed to be kidnapped and raped,” Dolan said. “She had a lot of marks on her. She was cut up pretty much from head to toe.”
Hopkins told Dolan she ended up in Butler County while traveling “the back way” from Ohio to Pittsburgh to “get away from her family.”
Hopkins was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center for injuries. Dolan said she admitted taking the vehicle.
Cazy said Tuesday that an arrest warrant for Hopkins is forthcoming.
A blue 2018 Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen from a garage Monday in Winfield Township, near where police were searching for Hopkins. Hopkins was believed to be operating the vehicle.
