Woman accused of DUI, causing Penn Township crash with child in vehicle

A woman was accused of driving under the influence with her 3-year-old child in the car and causing a head-on collision at a Penn Township intersection, according to state police.

Chelsie E. Brown, 32, of Russellton, was charged with felony child endangerment, five counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment, DUI and several traffic citations after the crash at the intersection of Brownsdale Road and Royal Oak Drive.

At 11:25 p.m. on July 4, Brown was traveling west on Brownsdale Road in a Ford Explorer when she crossed the center line and struck a Jeep Cherokee head-on, according to police. There were four passengers, including two teenagers, in the other vehicle.

Brown was found to be under the influence of alcohol, documents showed. She did not have a valid drivers license and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to police.

Brown’s 3-year-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle, and was injured during the crash, police said. Documents showed he was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for injuries.

The four occupants of the Jeep Cherokee were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Brown was arrested and placed in Butler County Prison. She posted $3,000 bail on July 10.

Her preliminary hearing before District Judge Sue Haggerty is scheduled Aug. 23.
