A Valencia man was accused of driving under the influence twice in less than four hours after police said he crashed into the War Memorial at Adams Township Community Park.

Westbrook Perry, 59, is facing two sets of charges, including DUI, reckless endangerment and drug possession, which were filed July 22.

Police said Perry was pulled over for erratic driving July 21 and drove recklessly through the park later that day, causing alarm to the public.

Perry is accused of striking the War Memorial on the second incident.

The report did not indicate if the memorial was damaged. Calls to the township’s parks department and police department were not returned Monday.

Police said Perry was first stopped around 12:43 p.m. July 21 on Deer Spring Lane in the township.

A caller reported to police that a man in a blue Chevrolet pickup was driving and drinking a beer. When officers responded, Perry's vehicle was found parked in a field.

Perry was found in the driver’s seat, and he took a sip of beer while conversing with officers, according to documents. He showed impairment during field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

During a pat-down, police said a small bag of marijuana was found in Perry’s front pocket.

Perry performed a breath test at the Adams Township’s police station at 1:26 p.m., and his blood alcohol content was 0.121%. In Pennsylvania, the legal limit is 0.08%.

Perry was released that afternoon.

At 4:27 p.m. that same day, police responded to Adams Township Community Park for reports of a truck that ran into the War Memorial.

Following an investigation, it was determined Perry had driven through the park, causing alarm to pedestrians.

Police said the park was busy at the time of the crash. Documents showed that all pavilions and shelters at the park were occupied, and the splash pad was in use.

The War Memorial is approximately 3 miles from where Perry was first pulled over.

Police said when they approached Perry’s vehicle, they observed an open container of beer in the cup holder and a box of beer in the truck bed.

Field sobriety tests showed Perry was impaired, and he was taken for a blood test at UPMC Passavant in Cranberry.

Perry was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz is scheduled Tuesday.
