Slippery Rock school board approves new head varsity soccer coach
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock Area School Board directors approved three new hires at a meeting Monday, July 31, including a head coach for girls soccer, Maddy Johnson.
The other hires are high school chemistry teacher Morgan Lash and high school emotional support teacher Michele Aron.
This will be Johnson’s first year as a head coach, she said. Johnson said she previously coached in Cleveland. Johnson, a native of North Olmstead, Ohio, played at Slippery Rock University from 2016 to 2019 and was selected to the all-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference team three times.
Lash will also begin her first year teaching full time this fall, while August will mark Aron’s 32nd year in the classroom.
“I’m excited to just meet all my students and just, you know, see what I can teach them,” Lash said before the meeting.
Board directors approved a bid for four convection ovens through TriMark at a total cost of $57,764. Board member Diane Double said other bids were double that sum. Administrators said the higher-priced ovens had more digital features than the district needed and the four ovens they approved are closer to the models they are replacing.
The board postponed the approval of transportation requests that would add a route to the Watson Institute at a cost of approximately $391 per day. Superintendent Alfonso Angelucci said the district is still gathering information.
Board directors discussed bus routes for the upcoming school year. Business manager Paul Cessar said he hoped tentative bus routes would be posted sometime before Aug. 14 after the bus drivers’ meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 1.
The bus routes for the upcoming school year would be subject to change, said board president Vito Pilosi.
There are no updates to the Slippery Rock barn restoration project at this time, Pilosi said following the meeting.
