Tuesday crash involving tractor trailer on Interstate 79 sends 2 to hospital
Two people were taken to the hospital following a collision between a double-trailer tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle Tuesday night, Aug. 1, on Interstate 79 in Worth Township.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-79 near mile marker 101, according to Ryan Hanchosky, chief of Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team.
Hanchosky said the crash occurred when a passenger vehicle was traveling north in the left lane and the driver lost control. The car collided with a truck pulling two trailers traveling north in the right lane.
“The passenger car bumped into the tractor trailer … once they collided, both lost control,” he said.
The tractor trailer rolled over on the right shoulder, while the passenger car collided with a barrier on the left side of the road, according to Hanchosky.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken to AHN Grove City hospital for evaluations by Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company’s ambulance.
Crews were on scene until 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the state Department of Transportation arrived to divert traffic from I-79 northbound onto Route 422.
The northbound lanes were reopened at 6:36 a.m., according to state police.
The Portersville-Muddy Creek Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
