Officials have identified the passenger who was killed in a head-on crash Tuesday, Aug. 1 on Route 422 near Keck Road in Summit Township.

Dominick Recupero, 32, of Kittanning, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, said John Hanovick, chief deputy coroner on Wednesday.

Recupero was the passenger of a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Randall Hawk, 37, of Kittanning. Hawk’s vehicle collided with a Dodge Ram driven by Brooke Campbell, 22, of New Castle around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

An autopsy on Recupero was scheduled for Wednesday, Hanovick said.

Police reports state the Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling west on Route 422 when it hit a guardrail on the right side of the road for unknown reasons.

Police said the Chevrolet Cobalt then swerved into the eastbound lane and was struck by the Dodge Ram driven by Campbell.

Hawk was flown via medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for injuries, documents showed. Campbell had only minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

Police said both vehicles sustained severe damage. The crash report indicated that Hawk and Recupero were not wearing seat belts.

Route 422 was closed between Keck Road and Geibel Road for nearly five hours while police investigated the crash.

In addition to state police, Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Company, East Butler Fire Station, Herman Volunteer Fire Company and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the crash.

The crash investigation is ongoing, according to police.
