Geraldine Heemer
Geraldine (Gerry) Leona Heemer, of Butler, was born June 28, 1932, in Unionville, to the late Francis and Laura (Harbison) Martsolf, and died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was a graduate of Butler High School and worked at the Shirt Company for several years. She also worked at United Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. John’s Reformed Church. In earlier years, many happy times were spent roller skating, boating, swimming and water skiing.
Throughout her life, she spent hours playing her favorite card games such as 500, hearts and spades with various family and friends. Upon retirement, she also enjoyed ballroom dancing. She crocheted beautiful blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their favorite colors, including several in black and gold.
Especially enjoyable to her was traveling and the mini family reunions in the Outer Banks, N.C., with her four children and as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as could gather. Her family appreciated that she showed her love with her cooking skills, including potato salad with homemade dressing, blueberry pie with berries grown by her husband, Floyd, iced sugar cookies, marshmallow chocolate fudge and cinnamon rolls.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd Heemer, of Butler; three sons, Donald (Laura) Heemer, of Mount Joy, Randall (Bojana) Heemer, of Erie, and James (Juli) Heemer, of Loveland, Ohio; and one daughter, Marlene (Terry) Taylor of Davenport, Fla. She also has eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Betty) Martsolf, of Butler; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Guy and George Martsolf; and two sisters, Wilda Groves and Lucile Martsolf.
