Susan Gribik
Susan E. Gribik, 73, of Butler, passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, at Armstrong Center for Medicine & Health in Kittanning following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Dec. 31, 1949, in Kittanning, she was the daughter of the late Henry Joseph Sr. and Eleanor (Valliquette) Augustine. She attended Kittanning High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
She was employed as the office manager of her husband’s medical office in Butler for over 25 years, both when it was owned by her husband and during the ownership of St. Francis Hospital.
Sue enjoyed boating, crocheting, playing the piano, spending time with her family and friends, and Pitt basketball (but only when they were in the Big East). Although not Ukrainian by blood, she embraced the customs, food and religion as though she was.
Sue is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Joseph J. Gribik Sr., whom she married on July 20, 1968; her son, Joseph J. Gribik Jr., and his wife, Denise, of Dubois, and her daughter, Elizabeth Gribik, and her wife, Desiree Pannier, of Butler; her grandchildren, Zachary Gribik of Olean, N.Y., Nicholas Gribik and his fiancée, Caitlin Cesa, of Pittsburgh, Alexander Gribik of Albany, N.Y, Benjamin Gribik of Dubois and Logan Smith of Butler; and great-granddaughter, Aria Wolfgang.
Sue is also survived by her sisters, Linda Augustine of Ford City and Carol Augustine and her husband, Joseph Kemper, of Butler; her brother, Robert Augustine of Denver, Colo.; and dear friends, Paul and Christine Lombardo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Nicholas Gribik; her brothers, Henry Augustine Jr., James Augustine and Thomas Augustine; and her French bulldog, Belle.
GRIBIK — Friends of Susan E. Gribik, who died Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Parastas service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 514 Ninth St., Ford City, with Father John Gribik officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
