Speer

Kenneth Wayne Speer, 69, of Harrisville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, in Haiti while on a Hearts 4 Haiti Mission Trip.

Born on June 17, 1954, on the family farm in Harrisville, Ken was the son of the late John Boggs Speer and the late Garnet Pearl (McDeavitt) Speer.

Ken was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School, class of 1972. He attended trade school and was employed as a purchasing agent for Cooper Bessemer for many years. He then went on to open his own motorcycle shop, where he continued to work on many dirt bikes. Ken was a Past Master of Cedar Lodge 800 Masonic Lodge in Grove City. He was a very skilled craftsman and a jack of all trades.

Ken attended and was an active member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Most recently, he was rebaptized and a member of North Street Christian Church in Butler. He had been on numerous mission trips for Hearts 4 Haiti and made his home away from home in Haiti.

Ken is survived by his wife, Clanecie Mezadieu, of Haiti; his son, Jeffrey A. and his wife, Bethany, of Harrisville; one sister, Kathleen (Buzz) Canady of Wyoming; three aunts, Mary Frances Parry, Janet Barnes and Gladys Speer; two uncles, David (Andrea) Speer and Thomas (Kathy) McDeavitt; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Carol (Laymon) Speer, who passed away on Aug. 3, 2017; his second wife, Martha Jean (Stewart) Speer, who passed away on July 10, 2021; and many aunts and uncles.

SPEER — Kenneth Wayne Speer, who died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, was laid to rest in Haiti. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at North Street Christian Church, 226 W. North St., Butler, with Pastor Jake Klutinoty and Pastor Jim Lewis officiating.
