After 12 years in the making, La Vigneta Winery has opened a wine-tasting location for its more than 20 varieties of Italian-inspired wine at 110 S. Pike Road, Suite 204, in Buffalo Township.

The business was established in 2011 by owner Francesca Howden in the basement of her family home.

Her father, who is from Sicily, had been making wine for years for his catering business and when Howden tasted his wine at a family wedding, she knew what to do.

“I didn't know it was his wine,” Howden said. “I tasted it, and I thought it was the best wine on the table. That was the start of it all, and I thought we had to do something with this.”

Howden and the business have been investing more and more money over the years into production and supplies, she said, which takes place down the road at her family farm.

The tasting room at 110 S. Pike Road is set to a “coastal Italian theme,” according to Howden, that can accommodate about 45 people with indoor and outdoor seating.

“It's everything Italy,” Howden said. “We also have imported Italian chocolates, Italian style espresso drinks and Italian pastries.”

Howden said their best selling wine at the moment is the candied pear, but in the fall that changes to the apple pie moscato.

The La Vigneta Winery tasting room is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
