Jay-Z closes nightclub
NEW YORK — After 20 years, Jay-Z has shuttered his famous Manhattan hot spot.
The 40/40 Club — which the Grammy-winning hip-hop artist and business mogul debuted in 2003 — opened its Flatiron District doors for the last time in July.
A message on its website said it would reopen at a new location in Feb. 2024.
The flagship sports bar and lounge, which was located at 6 W. 25th St., became a draw for the hip-hop elite, hosting album releases, star-studded birthday celebrations and movie premiere after-parties. Even non-celebrities were able to rent out parts of the venue for their own private fetes.
Adorned with sports memorabilia, 40/40 adopted its name from a baseball term for the exclusive group of professional players who hit 40 home runs and stole 40 bases in a single season — what the club calls “a benchmark for power and speed.”
After briefly closing its doors in 2011 for a $10 million renovation, the club reopened in January 2012.
“I wanted to retain the feel of a clubhouse, a relaxed place to interact with friends,” Jay-Z told Rolling Stone.
In 2021, 40/40 celebrated its 18th anniversary with a soiree attended by Megan Thee Stallion, Swizz Beatz, Lil Uzi Vert, Victor Cruz and Beyoncé.
The 40/40 Club in Barclays Center remains open.

MIAMI — Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, is buying an estate on an exclusive man-made barrier island in Miami known as “Billionaire Bunker," where he will be neighbors with Tom Brady and Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner.
Bezos, 59, is paying $68 million for the three-bedroom waterfront home, which sits on 2.8 acres, Fortune magazine reported. The Amazon founder stepped down as CEO in 2021 to devote more time to philanthropy and other projects .
Guillermo Olmedillo, the village manager of Indian Creek Village , told The Associated Press he has no information about the purchase. The village has a country club and its own police force.
County records show the property previously sold for $1.4 million in 1982. The home has 9,300 square feet and a pool.
Bezos is not new to Miami. He graduated from Palmetto High School.

Pink got more than just the party started at her recent Boston concert when a fan went into early labor during the show — and later named the baby after the superstar.
Angela Mercer, who attended Pink’s Summer Carnival tour stop at Fenway Park on July 31, gave birth to a baby boy she named in honor of Pink.
Brigham and Women’s Hospital said Mercer gave her son Aycen the middle name of Hart, using the surname of Pink’s husband Carey Hart and their children, Willow Sage and Jameson Moon Hart.
The child was premature and has since been transported to a neonatal intensive care unit in Albany, where he’s able to receive care closer to his home.

Zendaya is remembering her “Euphoria” co-star Angus Cloud in her own way.
The actress shared on Instagram an image from the late actor’s hometown of Oakland, Calif., where he died last week at the age of 25. It shows a mural of Cloud, which features a black-and-white image of the actor along with graffiti messages from his fans. The street art was painted by Darin Balaban and some of Cloud’s friends in the aftermath of his tragic death.
According to his family, Cloud was found dead in his Oakland home on July 31.
“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today. As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways,” the family said.
They did not reveal how he passed away, but initially said Cloud — known for playing drug dealer Fezco on the acclaimed HBO series — had “intensely struggled” since the recent death of his father due to stage 4 pancreatic cancer .
Amid rumors that Cloud had taken his own life, his mother took to social media. “Although my son was in deep grief about his father’s untimely death from mesothelioma ... He did not intend to end his life,” she wrote last Friday.
“We may find out that he overdosed accidentally and tragically,” she continued. “Social media posts have suggested his death was intentional. I want you to know that is not the case.”
