Butler hires two patrol officers, promotes firefighter

Butler City Council hired Daniel A. Decaria and Benjamin P.W. Drake as police officers and promoted firefighter Timothy A. Iman to the rank of lieutenant Thursday, Aug. 24.

Iman will transition into his new role effective Sunday.

“(Iman) is a deserving candidate,” Mayor Robert Dandoy said.

Following the retirement of Capt. Kevin McAfee, the city is down a fire captain, said councilman and director of public safety Larry Christy.

Council also approved a resolution authorizing the redevelopment authority to file an application for Home Investment Partnerships Program funds. The federal program funds affordable housing activities and provides rental assistance to low-income people.

Additionally, council approved an agreement with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to use the Farmer’s Market for its Walk-up Food Distribution Program on the fourth Tuesday of each month through June 2024.

Both are annual agreements, council members said after the meeting.

Dandoy also reminded local residents to drain their pools into the sanitary sewer system and to wait until their test kits do not detect any chlorine levels before draining.

“Chlorine is considered toxic to fish and aquatic animals,” Dandoy said.
