Man killed in Route 422 motorcycle crash ‘wore heart on his sleeve’

Frank Weber

The family of a man killed in a motorcycle crash on Route 422 West on Thursday, Aug. 31, remembers him as someone who wore his heart on his sleeve and cared for those around him.

Frank Weber, 34, of Chicora, was killed when he was hit by downed wires while riding his motorcycle. His fiancee, 31-year-old Kristi Cross, was seriously injured as a passenger on the motorcycle.

Cross said that on the day of the accident, the couple was going on a motorcycle ride from their home with no destination in mind.

“He went how he would have wanted to,” Cross said. “Riding, doing what he loved with the love of his life.”

Cross, who is still hospitalized and is set to have plates and screws put in her ankle Wednesday morning, described her fiance as an “amazing, hardworking man” who would have done anything for his family.

The couple met at Butler Senior High School and later dated for three years before getting engaged in January 2021, Cross said. From their first date, they were inseparable and did everything together, she noted.

“He loved his kids, all of his kids and his niece,” Cross said. “He loved (them) to no end; he would have done anything for me and his kids. We were his life.”

Before his death, her fiancee was in the process of adopting her 6-year old twins, she said.

According to Frank’s oldest brother, Geza Weber, Frank was kind, and boisterously fun.

“He loved fast cars. He loved motorcycles,” he said. “The thing is, he’s an individual that wore his heart on his sleeve.”

Frank was born in Kingston, N.Y., to George and Mary (Dyke) Weber in August 1989, and moved to Butler County early in his life.

According to his obituary, Frank graduated from Butler Senior High School in 2007, and started a career in roofing. He accomplished his goal of starting his own company, Weber Roofing, which really took off in the last few years, according to Geza.

“He was good at it,” he said. “I know a couple weeks ago he was joking with me how he was going to retire before I do. ... His company had really started to expand.”

Frank was a family-oriented man, who began caring for his elderly father when he was just 31 years old, Geza said. He was also the father of Kaylnn and Bryson Weber; the stepfather of Addison Krystek, and the guardian of Izabella Weber, and had “bonus” children, Xelina, Xolani and Hendrix, according to his obituary.

Frank is also survived by seven siblings.

“He loved children. He was a good dad, his kids adored him. I know they’re having a hard time,” Geza said. “His siblings are having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that their baby brother is gone.

Geza said Frank’s friends also said he was a caring man.

“He was always emotionally available. He had a lot of friends who called him family,” he said.

Weber’s friends have set up an online fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and help support his survivors.

A GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $20,000 was started on Friday. Organizer Krista Dubay said she hoped to help cover funeral expenses, among other costs.

“Frank took care of people; it's who he was,” she wrote in an email. “His family, his friends, his employees. He was a very motivated and driven man who worked hard and loved harder.”

In addition to the GoFundMe for Weber, friends set one up for Cross, who is in stable condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. That campaign is available online at http://gofund.me/e3454631.
