Freeport finding groove on the gridiron

In commanding fashion, Freeport picked up a 38-6 win on the road against Quaker Valley Friday night. The victory was the Yellowjackets’ second in a row. They’ve now outscored their last two opponents, 85-6.

Central Clarion 72, Union/A-C Valley 0 — Trey Fleming rushed for 78 yards on three carries and Colbin Elliott tallied seven stops for the Falcon Knights, but the visiting Wildcats were overpowering, working a 49-point lead before the midway point.

Hayden Hindman had a 21-yard scoop-and-score and Brady Quinn a 27-yard pick-six for Central Clarion.

Aliquippa 33, North Catholic 7 — The Trojans were blanked through three quarters on the road. North (1-2) hosts Highlands to begin conference play next week.

Girls Volleyball

Ella Nicotra tallied 16 kills and four aces as Mars edged Blackhawk, 3-2. Match scores were 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 15-4.

Lily Javor had 14 kills for the Planets while Hailey Duker contributed 38 assists, five kills and 10 digs. Cecelia Christy had nine blocks, Lillianna Staines eight blocks, Emma Balazentis 12 digs and four aces, Alaina Graham 12 digs.

Girls Soccer

Mars shut out Oakland Catholic, 4-0, Thursday night at Highmark Stadium. The Planets take on North Catholic at J.C. Stone Field in North Park on Monday.
