Coroner: Death at Butler-Freeport Community Trail ruled a suicide
A 46-year-old man died Thursday morning, Sept. 14, after he reportedly fell from the Route 28 bridge onto the Butler-Freeport Community Trail in Buffalo Township, according to officials.
Officials at the Butler County Coroner’s office said the man’s death was caused by multiple blunt force traumas and was ruled a suicide.
Fire and EMS units were requested to respond to the scene at 7:54 a.m., according to county dispatchers. The man was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m., officials said.
According to Chris Ziegler, president of the trail, similar incidents have occurred on the trial during her 20-year tenure. She said she can recall five other incidents of people falling from the bridge within the past 10 years.
“At one time, there was an effort to get something added to that bridge … I wish there’d be a renewed effort to do something there, even just over the trail,” she said.
Kittanning state police is handling the incident. Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company and Freeport EMS also responded to the scene.
