Zelienople Rotary to Celebrate International Day of Peace
The Rotary Club of Zelienople will observe International Day of Peace on Thursday, Sept. 21, with a ceremony and dove release at the Zelienople Community Park at 402 E. Beaver St.
The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at the gazebo.
Signs created by students at Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School will be displayed. One thousand paper cranes will hang from the gazebo in honor of late club members Tom and Marie Grant, who inspired the placement of a peace pole at the gazebo.
The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the U.N. General Assembly as a day devoted to peacekeeping efforts by observing 24 hours of nonviolence and cease-fire.
This is the third year that the Zelienople Rotary celebrates the U.N.-sanctioned holiday.
