Two people were injured as a result of a collision between a tractor-trailer and an SUV on Friday morning, Sept. 29, in Jackson Township.

The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. at the intersection of Route 19 and Lutz Road, when a tractor trailer T-boned a silver Kia sport utility vehicle.

There were two people in the Kia, both female. One of the occupants was pinned inside the vehicle as a result of the crash. First responders had to rip the roof off the Kia to extricate her, which took approximately 20 minutes.

Both people in the Kia were taken to an area hospital. According to Harmony fire chief Scott Garing, the trapped occupant suffered shoulder and hip injuries. The extent of injuries to the other occupant are unknown.

“(The trapped occupant) had some traumatic injuries from the impact of the crash,” Garing said. “The other one was able to get out of the car on their own.”

There was only one occupant in the tractor-trailer, the driver, who was unhurt.

Units from Harmony Fire District and Harmony EMS responded, as well as Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department, Cranberry Township EMS and Jackson Township Police Department.
