Trailer destroyed in Oakland Township fire

Crews battled a fire at a trailer in Oakland Township late Sunday night, Oct. 1, and officials said the cause of the fire is still unknown.

The 12-by-30-foot construction trailer collapsed during the blaze, according to Scott Rattigan, chief of East Butler Volunteer Fire Company.

Other officials indicated that the trailer was the only structure on the property and appeared to have been converted into a camping space.

No one was inside the trailer when firefighters arrived on scene, Rattigan said.

Crews were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. to the 100 block of Davis Road, Oakland Township, for reports of the blaze.

“It had collapsed on itself already,” Rattigan said of the trailer. “All we could do was pull it apart and put it out.”

Rattigan said he was unable to determine how or where the fire started.

The fire was put out quickly, and Rattigan said crews faced no difficulties extinguishing it.

Crews remained on scene for two and a half hours waiting for Central Electric to disconnect power from the trailer, he said.

“It’s just normal procedure … We were putting out hot spots,” he said.

The state police fire marshal was called to determine the owner of the property and the trailer, according to Rattigan. Officials with state police said the fire is under investigation.

Lick Hill and Oneida Valley volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene.
