John William Stoops, 68, of Butler, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 16, 1955, in Flint, Mich., the son of the late Earle and Mary (Brown) Stoops.

John retired as a heavy equipment operator for Allegheny Mineral in Harrisville. He was strong-willed with a big heart, and loved to joke and tease. He enjoyed nature, spending time with his family and passing on his love of hunting, fishing and history. The stories and knowledge that he shared were endless. More than anything he was proud of and loved his family.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Patricia (Osborne) Stoops; a daughter, Jennifer (Shawn) Kirwald of Butler; a son, John (Beth) Stoops of Butler; five grandchildren, Alyssa and Eric Kirwald, and Tyler, Anthony and Bryson Stoops; a great-grandson, Emerson Saul; two brothers, Jim Stoops of Slippery Rock and Brian (Carol) Stoops of Germany; a cousin, Charles Closson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Earle J. Stoops; and an infant sister, Debbie.

STOOPS — Private service for John William Stoops, who died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, will be held at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.

Interment will be in the Butler County Memorial Park.
