Lois Annette (Stoops) Elder Hilliard, 97, of Chicora, passed away very peacefully at Chicora Medical Center early Monday evening, Oct. 2, 2023, in the company of her niece, Esther.

Lois was born to the late William and Esther (Kepple) Stoops on Dec. 18, 1925, in Fairview, Butler County.

Lois attended Fairview Township Karns City High School. Following high school, Lois married William G. Elder. They resided in Sherrett, Pa., after he fulfilled his obligations in the armed services. Bill died in October 1980.

While she lived in Sherrett, Lois worked at Montgomery's Store in Sherrett and at Toy's Market in West Kittanning.

Lois married Roy Hilliard, on Feb. 29, 1984, and moved to Fairmont City, Clarion County, Pa. Roy died in July 1990. Following Roy's passing, Lois moved back to Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County. She lived there until she contracted COVID-19 in December 2020. In January 2021, following her recovery, she moved to the personal care wing of Quality Life Services, formerly Chicora Medical Center.

Lois was a member of the Sherrett United Methodist Church for more than 70 years. She was also a member of the Sugarcreek Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary.

Lois loved to crochet, and made afghans and shawls for many of her family and friends. Most of all she loved going to church and spending time with her brothers and sisters and their children.

Lois is survived by two brothers, William (Regina) Stoops of Salem, Ala., and James (Donna) Stoops of Franklin, Pa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Theodore (Joan) Stoops; two sisters, Evelyn (Harvey) Earley and Mary (Clifford) Ortz; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Lois (Elder) Bowser; and eight nieces and nephews.

HILLIARD — Friends of Lois Annette (Stoops) Elder Hilliard, who died Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sherrett United Methodist Church, 640 Sherrett Road, Cowansville. Funeral service will follow immediately at 3 p.m. with Pastor Deborah Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at the Sherrett Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, Cowansville, Pa.
