Scoop’s Flying High

Turning in my best week of the season has me energized and seeing October as an opportunity to shine.

I was 9-1 with my picks last week and coming so close to perfection makes me even more eager to finally make it happen. There’s a full slate of games and I’m ready to break ‘em down. Let’s go!

Westinghouse at Butler — After a 55-0 loss to Seneca Valley last week, it seems there is nowhere to go but up for the Golden Tornado. But Westinghouse will bring a lot of speed to town on Friday and if Butler is looking for improvement, it won’t find much on the scoreboard.

Score: Westinghouse 42-12

Hempfield at Seneca Valley — The Raiders took out their frustration from a 0-5 start last week and I don’t see Hempfield offering much resistance toward win No. 2.

Score: Seneca Valley 27-8

Mars at Kiski Area — Mars is banged up, but will have enough to win a conference game on the road.

Score: Mars 32-10

North Catholic at Hampton — It will be interesting to see which running back — North’s Jack Fennell or Hampton’s Brock Borgo — fares better in this matchup. As for the scoreboard, advantage Trojans.

Score: North Catholic 27-24

Knoch at Shady Side Academy — I believe the Bulldogs will be largely one-dimensional on offense, relying on the pass, while the Knights will remain balanced.

Score: Knoch 31-22

Freeport at East Allegheny — The Wildcats have won three in a row and despite a strong effort from Freeport, you can make it four.

Score: East Allegheny 28-24

Karns City at Punxsutawney — The Chucks have registered 18 sacks through six games and that pass rush could be the difference in a very tight contest.

Score: Punxsutawney 26-24

Central Clarion at Moniteau — The unbeaten Wildcats may meet with defeat this season, but not anytime soon.

Score: Central Clarion 51-16

Slippery Rock at Sharon — The Tigers’ stout defense will rule the day.

Score: Sharon 31-6

Union/A-C Valley at Port Allegany — A long drive home is made more enjoyable if you win. The Falcon Knights will be a grumpy bunch come Saturday afternoon.

Score: Port Allegany 40-16

Riverview at Summit Academy — The Raiders’ 300 yards rushing per game does not bode well for the winless Knights.

Score: Riverview 37-14
