Knoch football receives forfeit win
Knoch’s scheduled varsity football game at Shady Side Academy on Friday night was canceled earlier in the day due to a medical situation among the SSA team.
“This has nothing to do with us,” Knoch athletic director Josh Shoop emphasized. “This is a medical situation on their end and they opted not to play the game.”
The Allegheny County CDC gave Shady Side clearance to play the game, but the school decided against it.
Knoch football coach Tim Burchett said hand, foot and mouth disease was detected in the SSA football locker room. Shady Side opted to accept a forfeit loss rather than play.
“That was the decision on their end, to take a forfeit,” Burchett said.
Both teams decided against rescheduling the game.
“That would mean playing on a Tuesday or something, moving our next game back to Saturday ... It just wasn’t a viable option,” Shoop said.
With the forfeit win, Knoch improves to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in Allegheny 6 Conference. Shady Side falls to 4-3, 1-1.
