Stevenson, Dailey help GCC victory

GROVE CITY — Butler graduate and Grove City College freshman midfielder Tori Stevenson scored a pair of goals to help the Wolverines’ women’s soccer team defeat Thiel, 8-0.

Stevenson’s goals occurred less than three minutes apart. Karns City graduate and GCC freshman defender Emma Dailey also scored for the Wolverines (6-4-1, 3-0-1).

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Lisman, a Mars graduate, played the first half and earned her 27th win.

DeGraaf, Lucas lead volleyball win

GROVE CITY — Seneca Valley graduate Anna DeGraaf tallied eight kills and five blocks as the Grove City College women’s volleyball team won its PAC opener, 3-1, over Waynesburg on Wednesday.

Match scores were 21-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-6.

Butler graduate Gabby Lucas had 17 digs in the victory.

Brown wins pair in harness racing

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown picked up two more victories in harness racing action Thursday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Brown triumphed with Hit Like Crazy, the 3-year-old gelding winning a $10,900 Conditioned Trot. Brown also teamed with trainer Steve Schoeffel of Evans City to win a $9,000 Conditioned event with freshman trotter Cyclone Ben. Kathy and Virginia Schoeffel, both of Evans City, are among the owners of Cyclone Ben.

Driver Shawn Johnston of Evans City and trainer Susan Callihan of Chicora scored a win with Aunt Bee, a 5-year-old mare who won a $10,500 Conditioned Trot.

Harbaugh joins SRU’s women’s hoop staff

SLIPPERY ROCK — Christian Harbaugh, an assistant coach for Butler County Community College’s men’s basketball team last season, has been named assistant coach of the Slippery Rock University women’s team.

BC3 finished 20-4 last season, winning the Region 20 championship and being ranked seventh in the NJCAA.

Harbaugh began his tenure at SRU on Monday. Prior to coaching at BC3, Harbaugh spent four seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Point Park University.

BC3’s Girvan gets Player of Month

BUTLER TWP — Aryana Girvin of the Butler County Community College women’s volleyball team has been named Region 20 Player of the Month for September.

Girvan leads the Pioneers with 169 kills, including a BC3 single match record-tying 27 against Penn State Greater Allegheny. Girvan has recorded 10-plus kills in eight matches for the Pioneers.
