The Butler County Genealogical Society will host a webinar, “Messages from the Grave — Listening to Your Ancestor’s Tombstone,” at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the downstairs meeting room at the Butler Area Public Library.

Tips on how to find cemeteries depending on time period, type, and economic condition of the deceased will be shared.

Ways to read seemingly illegible stones, problems encountered in reading a variety of marker types and how to overcome those problems also will be discussed.

Western Pennsylvania genealogy instructor and researcher Elissa Scalise Powell will lead the webinar. She has more than 30 years of experience in the field.
