Sabo

Barbara Hummert Sabo, 82, of Middlesex Township, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, under the care of Shelbourne Personal Care and Monarch Hospice.

She was born in Pittsburgh, on Oct. 10, 1940, to Henry Hummert and Bernice Mannella Hummert.

Barbara received a two-year degree from business school and worked for an insurance company upon graduation. She then married Donald Sabo and had three children. Not only was Barbara a devoted mother and housewife, she also worked part time as a legal secretary for her mother, Bernice Hummert, attorney at law. In Barbara’s later years, she worked as a jewelry manager for Kmart.

Barbara was a cheerful, fun and strong woman with many hobbies, such as reading (her favorite hobby), crossword puzzles, bowling, dancing, astrology and canning. She was an avid animal lover and considered her daughter’s cat and dogs her grandchildren. She was a great listener and had an answer for anything you asked her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Hummert and Bernice Mannella Hummert; her stepmother, Val Hummert; and her husband, Donald Sabo.

She is survived by her three children, Donnie Sabo, Dana (Jerry) Sabo and Mark Sabo; her brothers, Hank (Mary) Hummert and Ron (Lori) Hummert; her sister, Gaylene Hummert; her cousin, Kathie (Jim) Klarmann; and her cousin, Vince (Margie) Collins.

SABO — The family of Barbara Hummert Sabo, who died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the American Cancer Society.
