Saxonburg Chess Club to hold 2nd tournament Nov. 4

After successfully conducting its first tournament Aug. 19, the Saxonburg Chess Club will host a second one Saturday, Nov. 4, at the South Butler Community Library in Saxonburg.

The tournament will be organized by Pittsburgh chessmaster Gabriel Petesch. According to club co-founder Oliver Siemer, there will be a few changes this time around.

"We will be having three sections instead of two this time: beginner, intermediate and advanced,“ Siemer said. ”Advanced and intermediate will use chess clocks and take chess notation.“

For the second tournament, the cap on participants has been raised from 36 to 44. Players can sign up at gpchess.net. The tournament will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and registration is open to players from grades K-12.

All players must have a U.S. Chess Federation membership before registering. Registration is $40.
