Lydia Groves
Lydia C. “Toots” Groves, 100, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at Brookdale Personal Care Home, Penn Hills.
Born Aug. 1, 1923, in Washington Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of John F. and Lydia A. (Morrow) Campbell.
On Aug. 22, 1948, Lydia married John “Jack” Groves. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2000.
Lydia graduated in 1942 from Concord High School, Butler County. She graduated from Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Lydia spent her career as an obstetrics nurse at various hospitals and volunteering her nursing skills taking care of her neighbors.
She was a member of the East Brady United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star Chapter 311, the Dames of Malta Chapter 101, the former Jones Conner American Legion Post 402 Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society.
Lydia loved to sew and quilt and volunteer. She volunteered at the Allegheny Hills High Rise for over 25 years.
Lydia is survived by two daughters, Gail McKenna of Export and Beverly (Gerald) Hesidenz of Saxonburg.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Dawn (Darin) Fabian, Kris (Vari) Hesidenz and Jonathon (Sarah) McKenna; and nine great-grandchildren, Isabella, Joel, Allyson, Elizabeth Fabian, Julian Hesidenz, and Britton, Brinley, Evianna and Emmersyn McKenna.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, David; three brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, Joel David Hesidenz.
GROVES — Services for Lydia C. “Toots” Groves, who died Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS SERVICES, East Brady.
The Groves family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Lost and Found Pharmacy at 11555 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills, Pa. 15235. A nonprofit pharmacy that serves uninsured and underinsured individuals.
