A girl was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital after being struck by a vehicle at a bus stop Tuesday morning, Oct. 17, in Slippery Rock, according to officials.

Crews were dispatched at 7:17 a.m. to the intersection of Vincent Road and Franklin Street in the borough for report of the crash.

According to Terry A. Fedokovitz, chief of Slippery Rock Borough Police, a school bus traveling west on Franklin Street stopped at the intersection of Vincent Road to pick up students of Slippery Rock Area School District.

An 11-year-old girl was crossing the street to get on the bus when she was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Franklin Street, Fedokovitz said.

He added that the bus had its stop sign out and its lights on at the time of the crash, and the vehicle driver did not see the lights.

Fedokovitz said he expects charges will be filed against the driver.

Alfonso Angelucci, superintendent of Slippery Rock Area School District, said the girl attends Slippery Rock Area Middle School, and she was alert and conscious at the scene.

“Our counselors worked with those students who may have been impacted by the accident,” Angelucci said.

Dispatchers confirmed the girl was injured and was taken by ambulance to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The crash is still under investigation.

Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team and its ambulance also responded to the scene.
