BUTLER TWP — A man was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 17, after having his leg pinned against a light pole in a parking lot on New Castle Road.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m., when a man lost control of his truck while hauling heavy equipment across the parking lot of the Point Plaza shopping center. One eyewitness, Marshall Bergad, saw it unfold while he was at the PennDOT License Center taking a motorcycle riding test.

Bergad said the driver hit a pole with both his truck and trailer as he tried to back out of a parking spot.

“He put it in reverse, opened up his door, and the door caught the pole,” Bergad said. “And he fell out of his truck in his safety belt and the truck kept going in reverse. He got pinned up between the pole and the door.”

Bergad climbed into the man’s truck to shut it off and prevent further damage. Units from the Butler Ambulance Service arrived on the scene within minutes, along with the Butler Township police and VA Butler Fire and Emergency Services.

The man’s identity is unknown, as is the extent of his injuries.
