A threatening comment reportedly made by a Butler Area Senior High School student on the bus ride home from school Wednesday, Oct. 18, was determined to be not credible, according to an early Thursday morning email from Brian White, superintendent of the Butler Area School District.

Police were notified of the comment and investigated, White said in the 6 a.m. email to intermediate and senior high school families.

“I can’t speak to any of the specifics,” White said. “We leave that to the police whenever there is a threat. This was reported to us late last night, and then we immediately turned it over to the police.”

White said he is was not able to speak to any discipline the student might receive from the school district.

“Based on the police visit to the home, it has been determined that there is not a threat to our students, staff or schools,” White said in the email.

He encouraged those who see or hear “disturbing statements involving our schools or students” to immediately report them to the school district and local law enforcement. He also said that parents with questions or concerns about school safety can direct those to the child’s principal.

“I appreciate those who informed us. If people hear something, they should say something so we can react and take appropriate steps,” White said.

In the email, he said the school district takes all threats seriously and will engage in all appropriate disciplinary action under the student code of conduct and under Pennsylvania State Law.
