1 ‘critical,’ 2 transported after Jackson Township crash
JACKSON TWP — Crews responded to a three-vehicle crash near 2314 Evans City Road on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in which a pickup overturned and the driver of a sedan was entrapped.
“The dash was down on his legs, and the door was pinching him from getting out,” said Chief Scott Garing, Harmony Fire District, of the sedan driver.
Garing said the driver of the sedan had to be extricated before being transported by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian via stat MedEvac. The helicopter landed a quarter of a mile away from the scene at Glick Fire Equipment Co.
“He was the most critical,” Garing said.
The sedan’s passenger, the two occupants of a van and the driver of the overturned pickup were all able to free themselves, he said, and two patients were transported by ambulance to “trauma centers.”
Garing said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
“I honestly don’t know the details involved in the collision itself,” he said.
The crash was reported around 3:50 p.m., according to Garing, and Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company Chief Ryan Hanchosky — who happened to be picking up equipment at Glick — was the first one on the scene.
“We were on scene pretty quick,” Garing said. “I would say that our fire engine was here within six minutes.”
By 4:40 p.m., crews were preparing to tow the vehicles and clean up the site. Evans City Road was closed from the intersection of Magill and Hartmann roads because of the crash.
Also responding were Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, Evans City Volunteer Fire Department, Callery Volunteer Fire Company, Cranberry Township EMS, Harmony EMS and Jackson Township Police Department.
