Free clinic dates conflict
I have been a volunteer for the past few months on the planning committee for the Remote Area Medical Clinic coming to Butler on Nov. 11 and 12 at the Butler Intermediate High School.
My job, along with others, has been to visit dental and vision offices in Butler to recruit these doctors to come to the clinic and provide their services for free to our friends and neighbors. Many of us cannot afford to use our insurance, and this clinic will fill that gap — offering dental fillings, extractions, cleaning and even making prescription eye glasses while you wait.
This is a wonderful example of a town coming together to help make life better for all of us.
I was happy to see Butler health system just advertised a free clinic offering many services, but really upset that they are holding their clinic on the same day as the clinic at the school.
Not only does this confuse people who may hear about a “free clinic,” but it makes people choose between getting a painful tooth filled at one clinic, or getting their carotids screened at the other. Come on, Butler health system … why did you pick the date of the school clinic that has been advertised for months?
