Helicopter sent to crash with injuries in Center Township

Dispatchers at the Butler County 911 center sent emergency responders Saturday to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on Sunset Drive near the intersection with North Benbrook Road in Center Township.

State police, along with Unionville Volunteer Fire Company and Butler Ambulance Service, were dispatched to the accident at about 4:15 p.m.

Rescuers on the scene reported they would extricate an occupant from one vehicle by lifting out the dashboard and removing the person through the driver’s side.

A helicopter also was requested by first responders and a landing zone was set up at Unionville Volunteer Fire Company’s fire hall, which is about 1 mile away.

Although the weather was cloudy and overcast, LifeFlight was in the air by 4:25 p.m., according to emergency services radio transmissions.

Unionville rescue team members reported to the 911 center that LifeFlight had lifted off just before 5 p.m., with one patient en route to Allegheny General Hospital.
