ZELIENOPLE — After a public hearing, borough council on Monday, Oct. 30 approved a joint authority conditional use permit application, which will provide a new administrative center and garage across from its main office at 607 Market St.

“Council is required to hold a conditional use public hearing, which has been done this evening,” borough manager Andrew Spencer said during the meeting.

There was no public comment for or against the permit.

Council voted to take the planning commission’s recommendation to approve the permit on the construction of the new, one-story building and garage for the sewer authority.

Western Butler County Authority, the joint authority that provides water and sewer services for the borough, said earlier this month that the authority had outgrown its current facility, and that the new administrative center would be the “first step” in its upgrades.

Leaf pickup resumes in Zelienople

The borough resumed its annual leaf pickup Monday, according to council member Marietta Reeb.

The free service, which runs through November, allows residents to place their leafs the curbside for a weekly pickup from the borough’s street department.

As in previous years, the council members wanted to remind residents about the services rules.

“They only want leaves,” Reeb said. “No bags.”

The shared service with Harmony does not have a set schedule for pick up but residents are assured that their leafs will be picked up.

Along with not putting leaves in bags, residents are also asked to put their leaves on the curb, not the street.

Residents can check the borough’s Facebook page for any updates.
