North’s Hardy, Kelly state doubles tennis runner-ups
HERSHEY — North Catholic junior Katie Hardy and freshman Brea Kelly finished as the runner-ups in the PIAA Class 2A girls’ doubles tennis championships at the Hershey Racquet Club Saturday. Knoch’s Greb sisters — Emily and Lindsey — placed third in the same event.
The tandem of Hardy and Kelly beat Berks Catholic’s Sarah Schnatz and Isabella Logozzo (6-1, 6-3) in the first round, Cathedral Prep’s Sophia Glance and Finleigh Handzel (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) in the quarterfinals, and reached the finals by downing Greensburg Central Catholic’s Sasha Hoffman and Stella Bossert (7-6, 0-6, 6-2).
The Trojanettes’ pair was defeated by Lower Moreland’s Hannah Kideckel and Rebecca Kideckel (6-0, 6-0) in the final round.
That Lower Moreland team was the same to boot the Grebs into the consolation game, by a 6-3, 7-6(5) score. Knoch’s partners had defeated Lancaster County Day School’s Monica Lopez and Delanie Edwards (6-0, 6-1), and Allentown Central Catholic’s Madelyn Groff and Genesis Almodovar (6-1, 6-2) to get to the semis.
The Grebs turned away Hoffman and Bossert, 6-0, 6-0, in the third-place match.
